I don't think so, unless the other search engines draw their results from Google search. In that situation, the search results should be similar.

Anyway, even if it were true that you got better ranking in Bing as a result of your higher placement in Google, that would be a good not bad thing.

All the search engines have their own algorithm.. but it is true that most of the people are aiming to optimize for Google.com however, if your site is well optimized in Google then your site would be found in other search engines too somewhere, position is not guaranteed in other search engines as you haven't optimized for those search engines.

However, what I have experienced is Yahoo like directory submission, if you do directory submission regularly your site would have good ranking in Yahoo, also if you include your site in Yahoo Directory then you would get more benefit from Yahoo Ranking.

Do you mean the Yahoo directory? Isn't that like buying your way into Yahoo search though? And, that's not fair to someone who can't afford to pay $600 for inclusion.

Everyone assumes that if you rank well in Google, you will rank highly in other search engines. But I don't know if that's true. And, anyway, some people say the traffic from other search engines besides Google is negligible so why even optimize for it?

Well, if you don't afford to submit your site for Yahoo Directory then you can do free directory submissions and they would be helpful for Yahoo SEO.

I have read many discussions about the SEO for search engines that whatever SEO work you do on your website will be applicable to all search engines. If you will ask why the search list of the search engines are not the same like your site is number 5 in one search list and number 20 in another that is the effect of the search engine’s algorithm. Yes, each search engine has its own algorithm in searching.
