A freelancer won't really know anything about your business (except for what they can read on your website). So that person is not really invested well into your site's success. They simply show up and do a specific job for you and then leave, where as the employee will stick around and try to ensure your site keeps going. This could be one reason to hire a permanent person.

There's benefits to both sides.

With having someone permanent it provides stability and continuity on both ends of the scale; there's no questions there. They can build a good long term working relationship by getting to know each others expectations. They become more flexible surrounding each others needs, if communication isn't a barrier.

A Freelancer (based on my experience) can pick and choose the work they wish to apply for, therefore giving them more experience with "people skills", as they work for a variety of individuals with different personalities. Due to the difference in personalities, they have to adapt accordingly with their requirements, sometimes making it a challenge. The variety of articles Freelancer's write about is astounding sometimes, as the demands take them from one topic to another concerning the exact opposite.

Freelancer's have the same opportunities of a permanent writer, as they too establish a relationship with their employers and get to know their needs and requirements. The detrimental part of it is, Freelancer's have the opportunity to re-evaluate the work and decline, if the employer becomes (or already is) demanding and extremely hard to please. When you're permanent, you really don't have the choice to turn any job down.

If I was a employer, I think I would lean toward a Freelancer because of the constant people skills, communication and the constant exposure to various topics. Having a fresh mind often proves well in a business, and they don't seem to view their career as being "bored" on a constant basis.

I, myself enjoy constant change. It keeps your mind fresh, open, and knowledgeable to everything around you. It allows room for constant growth within yourself and your family! Rejuvenating I think! ;)

With an actual employee, you will have the burden of legal requirements to comply with including health/safety/tax withholding/insurance, etc. These things would not be covered for your freelance worker.

I will always hire a freelancer instead of having an employee (as long as I don't have full time work for another person). Good thing about hiring a freelancer is you can have him work, pay him and then you are done. There is no extra financial burden. However, if you are hiring an employee, you will not only have to give him monthly salary, but also give him allowances and dividends. If there is not much work in your company, your employee will be receiving payment without working too much.

An employee is a regular worker who can get the hang of the job, so to speak, while a freelancer is a project basis worker only. In terms of concern, you have a big advantage with the employee since he is part and parcel of the business. The downside of the employee is the regular expense for the salary.

If you are an employee hiring regular worker is very beneficial. You can hire a worker pay him the fixed amount and make him do unlimited jobs.
