Dealing with jealousy from other freelancers

Some people are really successful at their freelancing work and seem to earn large sums of money. Those people will gain fans and haters and this is natural. The haters will often try sabotage. How do you deal with the jealous people who try to bring you down and make your business less profitable through unscrupulous methods?

Haters don't bother me. They don't even enter my radar. And, if they are there, I don't see them. That's how I deal with people who have nothing better to do with their time than pettiness.

We must not be jealous of other freelancers. Everyone is uniquely gifted. Just keep your skills improved day by day. Don't envy others. Just focus on yourself.

They don't bother me either. I figure we are all in this to make money and if someone else is doing it, good for them.

If someone is trying to sabotage you, that just means they see you as competition and a real threat. Just brush it off and go on as those people are so focused on bringing you down, they don't have time to be a success.

If you find haters on one site, then go to another and those people won't be there. Or, go to a forum where they let you list your services and sell there. Eventually you will find a place where there won't be so many people trying to trip you up and you'll start earning what you are worth rather than spending your day dealing with drama.

I find that the "Haters" are often people who are jealous of others, or are afraid for their future in their chosen career. Perhaps they are VERY successful, however lack the freedom to do what they want to do, or maybe they're intimidated by what you bring to the table, because they view you as competition... Taking away their business.... Who knows, but one thing should be... Keep your head high, and don't let them haul you into the quicksand. Be yourself and strive to become what you want to be!

Agreed. I also think it's good to be sure you put many eggs in many baskets.

That way, if a Hater breaks one of your eggs, scrambles it all up with green ham, performs Negative SEO on you with Link Spam-
at least you've got another dozen from anotha' cousin that will hatch into something worth given' a damn.

Don't focus on what others are trying to do to you, only concentrate on offering better quality services all the time. In this way you will leave your competitors and rivals in the dust.

Yeah just concentrate on making your own services or products the best you possibly can and ignore the haters. They are everywhere, online and in real life. I can't think of anything more self-detrimental than concentrating your thoughts on someone else's success (if that's what you're hating). The most successful people I have met actually celebrate the success of others...at the end of the day, that's what we should all be doing.

And, I agree with you. I like hearing about other people's success as it encourages me to keep going.

I am just happy for the work that I have given to me. I have worked with some wonderful buyers on here and am glad that they are willing to give me repeat business.

I am not very worried or upset if someone else succeeds. I look at my own life and concentrate on my family and business and what's important to me, not what they are doing. And, if they are worried about my success or jealous of it, then I don't notice.

You have such a wonderful, positive attitude and it's good to see that you can stay encouraged about the situation.

I agree Miken. We should all pull together because freelancing is not always easy.

I realize this is an old post but I wanted to add to this discussion. When a person becomes successful it often awakens the spirit of jealousy and envy in some. In my line of work we call it a form of projected Magick. Some inexperience and envious minds are the worst aggressors and they have not learned how to control this type of negative impulsive type of energy. You see they really don’t want to feel jealousy; they simply have little control over how they project this type of negative energy. If you feel your energy is being undermined or threaten one thing you can do is to repel that type of energy. In some cultures they believe in wearing certain protective clothing such as red this aid you in not accepting or receiving that type of energy. Being jealous can be highly destructive because its aim is to destroy happiness or harmony. Jealously begins to emerge in the early years when a child begins to relate to family and social environment. A person is responsible for their own feelings. You can avoid many problems by not trusting jealous people. Sometimes It is difficult to discover the jealous person because their jealously is often hidden by nice looks, cozy and friendly conversation and sometimes their behaviors is camouflaged by excessive respect or excessive admiration. A person who is jealous is pleased with the failures of others. It is best to avoid or protect yourself from such people and not be too trusting and distance yourself.

I never mind them. They are just insecure of your success. Your on top and they're trying to drag you down. If you keep paying attention to them this will only distract you. Haters always come and go. I will just focus to positive things and how to make myself better.

I am lucky not to meet jealous freelancers albeit most of them are supportive of me. There was a time when one forum owner accused me of something and several freelancers stood up in defense of me. I wouldn’t forget that incident that happened last year. But I know there are those kinds of people who are not happy with the success of others and that is due to professional jealousy.
