Is sharing really caring for a freelancer?

Sometimes, it's nice to share a blog post by a fellow blogger. But if you spend your entire day tweeting about others, then you have no time to produce original content. Is there some point at which sharing is not really caring and you will end up doing more damage to your own professional reputation as a freelancer or blogger?

Yes that could very well happen. You have to look out for yourself. Just make it a point to only spend so much time a day doing the tweeting about others and then concentrate the rest of the time on you.

Focus on yourself and your own business first. If you are swapping tweets with another Twitter user, then that might work out well. But otherwise don't go too far out of your way to tweet when it's not about your own business.

Every hour of your day has a price tag on it. Unless that other person is paying you do tweet or share, you should keep to your own business building efforts so you earn more money.

You need to take care of yourself first and foremost and then worry about others.

It may sound bad but I worry about me and me only when I am doing work!

When you take care of your business, you'll earn money and that will help you take care of your family and provide for their needs. So there is nothing selfish about that.

If you are sharing private information online that could lead to disgrace if your clients read it. So it's good to keep those things to yourself. As for sharing their links, you're not obligated to do that.

There is a limit to helpfulness especially online. Only retweet things that will make you look good or in some way help your career or job prospects.

I can do that for a friend – to share the promotional post for his blog. However, I couldn’t spend so much time for that because time is my limitation. Besides, I also have my freelancing work to handle. It is a nice feeling to help other freelancers like me especially bloggers who earn their livelihood from their writing.
