I don't think you can do permanent freelancing for years in the manner of micro-job websites, because you need to stay online daily (no free time for Christmas, nor Easter, nor Sunday, nor free days for your personal problems: like health, travel, family etc).
You can do freelancing for a while to earn some important revenues, or you need to reinvent your actual freelancing work (in almost time it would be automated).

My recommend is that you make freelancing job part time right now (work 3-5 hours Daily ) and stay focus on other Job Offline.
Once You Start Earning Decent Money Like(Earning $2000-5000+ Monthly) Then You Can Think Of Going Freelancing Permanent.
Don't Just Focus On Freelancing Job, Start Your Own Website Choose High Profitable Nice And Earn Money By Adding Adsense in it,First Start With 1 Website,Once You Are Earning $1500+ Monthly From Adsense And Create More Website(2,3,4,5 or more) And Start Money by adding adsense on all other website.
Once You start earning $1500+ Month From Adsense From Each Website,Just Keep Your Website With You For 1-2 Years And
Then Sell Your All Website At Higher Price Like $40,000 or more Per Website.Depending On How Much You Earn From Each Website.
But This Require Lots And Lots And Lots Of Hard Work.So You Get Stress Free,You Can Hire Or Partner With Some Of Your Friends.
I Hope You Like My Idea.

As they say, "Don't quit your day job!" and that's very true about freelancing. You will likely need a stable income from another source separate from freelancing until you can get your client base built up.
