You see so much on TV about how bad smoking is, but lots of people still do it. A friend of mine is trying to quit smoking now, but she says it's the hardest thing she has ever done. I want to hear your views on smoking.

I have smoked and really do enjoy it. But it is getting expensive. I should quit, I need to!

For my opinion, I feel it's fine to smoke except females.

Why do you find it acceptable in males and not in females? (Just curious)

My whole family, including myself, has smoked at one point, but now we are ALL smoke free. My aunt was the worst, as she was a chain smoker for decades who eventually got cancer and was told to quit or die, so she quit.
People should quit for health reasons. If the word "CANCER" doesn't scare you into quitting, then it goes to show how strong the addiction really is. Have you ever seen a person battling Cancer? Would you really, honestly want to go through that yourself when you could possibly prevent it?
Yes, I know someone will say "But you're gonna die of something anyway!", but would you purposely step in front of a moving bus if you didn't have to? Yes, we all die, but I'd rather go in a less painful way than with black lungs full of tar (TAR!!) and toxins, knowing that you could at least have some control yourself over lowering that possibility.
Of course, then there's secondhand smoke, so you not only hurt yourself, but people you care about as well. If you want to cut your own life short by inhaling smoke, then I guess that's your decision (kind of like assisted suicide, if you think about it), but affecting the health of those around you ON PURPOSE is a whole other moral compass to follow.

I have tried to quit only a couple of times, but I'm no where near ready to quit. Not even close. I was asked recently if I felt guilty over smoking, and I explained to them that, if I did feel guilty it would be a sign for me to consider quitting. I have to gain will power to kick the habit, but I'm not ready to quit yet ;) I have been a smoker for years... 20yrs, actually.
