How to clean up a messy homepage

When I first started my HTML based website, it looked really nice. But over time, I've added lots of new content and looks very messy. Can someone please give tips on how to clean up a home page so that it's more presentable and user friendly for visitors?

Get rid of all the banners and opt for text ads that are well integrated and use a complementary color scheme that matches your site decor. If you use a banner, make sure that it is properly framed and labeled as 'sponsored' so as not to confuse site visitors. Just a few ideas to help clean up the home page.

Use Adsense text blocks and banners selectively and only to supplement your content.

Only use snippets of articles that deep link to interior pages. This will give the reader a reason to click through from the home page.

Your home page should contain only important information, don't put any useless or reading material in details.. for this you should create different pages..

Only use snippets of articles that deep link to interior pages. This will give the reader a reason to click through from the home page.

Using little snippets of articles and then linking to the full article is a good idea for SEO too as it links all your pages. Another thing you could do is feature one new article (around 250-300 words) on your homepage in a special box. This article could be changed monthly and would provide nice SEO friendly content and give the visitor a preview of the contents on the rest of the site.

I strongly recommend you to hire a professional (I'm one) to clean up your code. Many a times, user who develops the code can't clean up, as he/she loves his/her code

If you like you old site just upload that code if u have some back up... or you can remover unwanted things from page.. if you don't able to do that ether just hire a professional to fix that mass ...

I say that you only need to put the important things on the homepage as well. Then create other pages so users can click and go where they wish.

That's a good idea actually as your original theme template for that page will not have many of the things added on over time.

For one thing, you could easily make a copy of your home page (under a new name) and then tweak that until it looks how you want and then publish in place of your existing home page. That will allow you some freedom to have a home page in tact but still make revisions you need.

Don't choose overly bright colors that contrast with each other too much for your site theme as it will also clash with your banner ads. This can cause a site to look messy.

Don't choose overly bright colors that contrast with each other too much for your site theme as it will also clash with your banner ads. This can cause a site to look messy.

Maybe it would just depend on your site's niche. For instance, with a gamer website, you could use darker and more bold colors. But with a baby themed website or blog, you would want to stay with pastels.
