Do you modify signature links on your forum?

On my own forum, I'm very quick to modify an offending signature link, such as one from a new member who is advertising spam or linking to illegal sites. Also, not every forum member deserves a signature link, especially those who were only interested in backlinking and then left soon after earning the privilege. When do you modify signature links?

If they are linking to an illegal site or have not bothered to post quality on the forum, then it's going to be alright to modify the signature link. The forum member who is just looking for a signature backlink rather than to participate as a contributing forum member, doesn't really deserve the link. If they bothered to get involved with the forum discussions, then maybe the backlink in signature line would be justifiably earned.

I don't modify any of my signature links.
If they go beyond the limits I issue them warnings. If the warnings are ignored, then I suspend them until they are ready to make the change. It shouldn't be up to anyone else to change their signature, as it's their responsibility to do so. If they fail to do what was requested, then they have consequences for the behavior.

If I'm managing the forum, then I will use my own best judgement. For instance, let's say the person is linking to an illegal site such as gambling. Just think about it, that kind of site is prohibited to be advertised on sites that show Adsense. If I take time to warn that person, then my own site could get in trouble with Google Adsense in the time that it takes for them to reply. So for that situation, I would delete the signature line linking to the illegal site, as they have broken the rules and deprived themselves of the right to have a signature.

We have very specific rules on forum signatures and I won't hesitate to delete a signature line that is not in keeping with the rules. The member has to agree to these rules before getting the signature line. So I would consider that to be the first and only warning.
