Is it smart to have an ever green blog for your forum?

With a forum, you can get great daily content which is generated by the forum members. But, if you add a forum blog (such as on a subfolder of the site), you can also benefit by posting ever green content. This content will answer questions related to your niche and not just be topical. Ever green content usually does better in Google search than topical posts and can generate traffic long after posted. So would you consider having an ever green blog to supplement your forum?

You could actually create a subforum for this same purpose and fill it with tutorials and other content. You could lock the discussions if you didn't want new comments or open it up for discussion. This would serve the same purpose as creating a separate blog.

This is not really necessary on a very active forum, so long as you are getting plenty of new content and comments daily. However, for a less active forum, it might make sense for SEO sake.

Your tutorial section could serve the same purpose as a blog and would actually keep forum members on the forum which is really where you want them to be rather than on a blog which is not really part of the forum. Even a blog on a subforum of the main domain is not really an integrated part of the forum.

I don't own a forum, however, I post on numerous forums. I find forums useful because of the exchanges of ideas and knowledge. However, in most cases, forum posts are short lived, unless it is about topics that attract members (for example discussion about how to make money). Having a blog with ever green contents definitely helps, because your forums will have search friendly content.

What is an ever green content? I think I have already read about it but I have to admit that I didn’t understand it completely. For me, something green means fresh. Anyway, incorporating a blog in your forum is not a bad idea. However, I don’t think it’s a good idea either because it may be a diversion from the focus on the forum. What if the members will just be reading the blogs and not going to the forum anymore? Although the blog can get new members, it is double-bladed having a negative and positive effect on the forum.

Evergreen contents are the contents that are relevant today and continues to be relevant tomorrow. Evergreen contents never lose relevance. People searched about herbal healing yesterday, they are searching today and they will also search this topic tomorrow. Therefore if you publish an article on herbal healing, you will gain visitors always. This is the evergreen topic. Evergreen topics will always pull traffic.
