Do you let mods from competing forums work on your site?

Is it really smart to let a moderator or admin who owns a competing forum to work on your site? Could there be a conflict of interest? What are the downsides or benefits of doing this?

And, you have to ask yourself why a staff member of a competing site would want such intimate access to your site. There could be a conflict, especially if they are stealing your members. You never know what a person's motive could be though.

The downsides might be how someone could steal your ideas and use them for the competing forum. So for instance, if you were planning to run a really good contest, the mod/admin who is also working on your site, could then take that idea and use it on their own site first. So it would really have less impact with your members, assuming they knew of the contest on the other site. That's just one reason not to allow competition to work on your forum.

I don’t think it is a healthy arrangement because no matter what the mod will say, you cannot discount his loyalty to the competition. However, there are exceptions like if the mod is your long time friends or your relative. But for someone who is not related of closely connected to you, I guess you are gambling with the well-being of your forum in hiring the staff of a competing forum. Why not hire someone from the community of your forum? If you have a large community, I’m sure you can find one there, that is if the price is right.
