How to cut down on noobie threads on your forum

On every forum, there will always be a massive amount of noobie type questions from people just starting out in the niche. This is especially true of webmaster/SEO and admin forums where people ask the same questions from one forum to the next. This can pose serious duplicate content issues, or at least make your forum come across as boring and stale. The key to cutting down on these type of threads is to start a sticky post of frequently asked questions for your niche and then merge similar posts or discussions into this one thread. That will cut down on the clutter and reduce member frustrations with having to sort through so many similar discussions, while providing a useful resource for all new forum members and anyone who wants to learn more about your forum niche.

Great idea Beverly. Sticky posts are a wonderful way to locate those questions that everyone wants answered.

And, maybe have a subforum that caters only to beginner type questions and one for more advanced and indepth topics and migrate all related threads to those sections of the forum.

Once your regular forums members have become familiar with this new way of doing things, they will stop posting the noobie type questions and start talking more in depth about the niche. In that way, your SEO would actually improve as you would be exploring the subject in depth and not just on the surface.

My suggestion for similar threads is to merge it into one. I had a thread that was merged and with the proper notification, I was not offended. Coming across with several similar threads on the board is sometimes annoying. But that can’t be helped because there are forum members who post anything that comes to their mind without thinking about the sensibility of it. And merging threads with the same topic will clean up the clutter.
