If you mean discussion is the thread or topic, I don’t think there is a necessity to put a parameter on it. Just let it go the way it will no matter how long it will be. Just remember that a discussion is content and as long as it can get more content then the better for the forum or website. If you lock the thread because it is getting too long then it is like killing the goose that lays the egg. Okay, you locked the thread so there is no more egg.
