Notifications of new posts

Do you have it set so that all members are updated by default when you (as admin or owner) make a new posts?

That would be very annoying if every member had to suffer with updates from every new post or response made. Soon their email box would be overwhelmed with updates from the forum.

NO I agree it would be very annoying to endure.

On my own posts, as admin, there is the chance to alert all members to the new discussion. And, usually I will take this option as I don't post many discussions, so hopefully it's not considered burdensome.

Well if you are only posting once in a while then it would be fine;)

Notifications are a really good way to get members back to the forum. Sometimes, people get busy and notifications act as a reminder that your forum still exists.

It would be nice to know when there is a new discussion to answer on my favorite forum. Though not really interested in being alerted to each new response.

On many forums, there is an option that allows you to be emailed if someone responds to your own discussion. It lets you subscribe to that discussion, which might be useful if you started the discussion and want to be able to respond to others there.

I use this a lot. It is always nice to have this option so you can see what everyone says after you have entered the conversation.

I think that you should leave it up to the person if they want it or not. This way their email is not getting cluttered up.

True, often times emails are very cluttered due to this reason.

Emails get cluttered up if they have this option. Instead you should just have an alert system that states on the page so and so commented on a post that you have commented on.

Sometimes this can be very annoying if I have many forums I am on. This is all what my mailbox is full of!

I personally do not like this idea as a mail box can get cluttered up really fast doing this.

I don't turn often turn on email options by default, most of the time the only ones I'll have set on by default is newsletter(or something similar) and replies to their own threads. Other than those I simply leave it up to the user to decide if they want anything else.

Regards,
Karoshio

These two options you mentioned are very useful as they keep the site user updated and ensure there is some type of communication to remind them of your forum, but not so much as to be annoying.

Mine is set so that they can change it if they want. If they don't want an update, they won't get it. They can also change what alerts they get.
