    When I first started my forum, they only offered the choice of phpBB and SMF. I tried phpBB first and didn't like it, so I went with SMF. Now, sometime later, the same hosting company offers MyBB along with other free forum software (Softaculous installation). And, though I could switch to one of those, I've stayed with SMF, because it's what I know.
