Why am I sad for no reason?

Sometimes, I feel very sad without good reason; I'm just sad for days without knowing why. I don't think it's real depression, but I can't seem to shake this sad feeling. I'm concerned there could be a physical cause to my feelings.

being sad is just part of our lives same as being happy. Sadness can depend n many factors in our lives, business, relationships etc... But there is always an option to find something what can cheer you up, like music, walking in nature, laughing with friends... Whatever. Never give up!!!

I suggest you go and talk to someone. I've been in plenty of therapy being an alcoholic and a drug addict (8 years clean now), plus I have bipolar disorder and I also suffered from post natal depression for 6 months after my first baby.

Being depressed is not a nice place to be, whether it has a physical cause or not. Often you can work through it in therapy and sometimes you need a little extra help in the form of medication such as antidepressants or mood stabilizers.

There is nothing wrong with getting some help.

Thank you for contributing your personal experiences especially if someone may be going through some tough times. It's such an eye opener for one to realize that they are not alone.

Hi Everett. Yes I think that is it really. When a person is struggling, especially with something like depression or mental illnes they often feel like they are alone and feel shame.

I am very open about my struggles, I blog about them! Most people I come into contact with tell me they struggle with a mental disorder or something close to them does. So most people have mental illness affecting their life in some way, yet there is such stigma attached to it?

Sanfora,

I know how you feel. I feel the same way. I feel depressed and sad. In my case, most of this appears due to the fact that I suffer from panic anxiety and prolonged depression, which I've been living with for more than 4 years now. Since my father passed. Truth to be told, I was at home when my father died. He died in front of me, and I did everything I could to keep him alive. I was 27 years old at the time.

With that being said, this had a huge impact on me and even though you might not have been into anything similar, you actually don't even need a HUGE reason to feel depressed or sad. Small things counts too. For instance, you could get depressed due to decreased sales. Sure, not at first, as this would most likely just be a temporary feeling, but in case these things occurs regularly, you will start to doubt yourself. You would start to question your choice of career and you will be in a horrible situation as you can't pay your bills.. Small things do count. And they add up.

Don't take these things lightly. Even though it might be nothing to worry about, you should still consider to contact a doctor. It's better to be safe than sorry.

I will, (as I've done a few times earlier in various topics) share my favorite quote.
“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!”

- Sylvester Stallone, Rocky Balboa

Be well.

Best Regards,

Hi sanfora for sadness or depresses there has any reason behind and into your mind. Though you can not guess, why you fee so. It is happening also to me some times, I do not realize why everything is not going on well and feeling sadness. But I can not express why I feel so. But should reason behind, it may happening due to your lack of sound health or it may happen due to your business factors or may family crisis. Reason should be there. So, I suggest to you try your best to find out problem and make overcome.

Thanks by Ajlancer

Sadness can be attributed with a sense of being alone, or because you are not feeling fulfilled, or maybe because you are stressed out without actually realizing it. I suggest you try to reflect a bit and evaluate your way of life. Try to pinpoint things that you would like to change or get rid of - most likely they are the reasons behind your sadness. Once you do this you could try to come up with ways to improve your way of life. Try taking a short vacation to relax, or consider starting something fun, such as a particular sports or a hobby.

I'm sorry you feel this way and it can be really difficult to deal with.

My wife suffers from depression and has for the last 8 years. She tried speaking with a therapist and that helped her to get things off her chest that she may be keeping inside and building up. Her depression and i think most peoples depression comes in waves. For example, she could have three or four really good days and then the rest were horrible for her. She would constantly want to sleep, couldnt explain why she was upset and crying. She needed more than just talking to a professional and eventually started taking medication. She still has her days but it is more manageable for her now. I hope you are able to figure out what is truly going on because depression isn't something to just put on the back burner and forget or ignore!

The answer to that question lies within you buddy, and moreover its human nature to feel sad or happy depending the situation your are in, but the best way to come out of sadness is by keeping yourself occupied by doing things that you like Or just spending some time with your loved ones. For better results just spend some time with your parents, talk to them, tell them whats going on. I m sure the warm comforting words from your parents will definitely get you out of you sadness.

One more effective solution for this problem.

THIS TIME WILL PASS

just write this on any plane surface maybe on your wall and next time you feel sad just stare at these words " This time will pass" for some time. i m sure this idea is gonna work, it works for me. Just remember nothing is permanent, time heals everything.

Another word of caution please don't look at these words "This time will pass" when you are feeling happy, then you will feel sad again.

Just cheer up and be happy !

That feeling can be originated from specific sources. You may possibly have economical difficulties in your household, unhealthy relationships, mental tiredness, lack of sleep, feeling hopelessness, etc. I think you should consult with someone you trust like your best friends, or doctors. Cheers!

There are many reasons why you would fee sad, especially if you read everything that is in the news. Also hormones play a major role, I would suggest surrounding yourself with positive people.

It's completly normal, being sad is part of our life, sometimes it happens without a reason needed, just try to cheer up watching a movie or your favorite TV comedy, take a day for yourself!

Hi Sanfora, how long did your sadness last? Did anything bad or abnormal happened in your life recently? If your sadness is recently and nothing bad happened to you, I think is normal to feel this way from time ti time. You said you have no reason to feel this way, I think is nothing to be worry about. Just wait a day or two and this will pass and you will be back on track!

hallo too bad that never happened on me, when I'm sad there must be a reason I don't like to feel unhappy however when I tend to feel so I try to distract myself doing different activities like cooking, or jogging or I go to gym and refresh my mind, sometimes I call my friends and we talk and it helps, it never last long you can also try to listen to the musics if you like musics, remember of a song you like and listen to it those are the things that helps me to deal with my sad moments, you can try them too.

Life is up and sometimes it's down. Don't feel guilty or blame yourself. It's not your fault that you feel this way. However, if this continues for a long time, please talk to someone and seek help, preferably a medical practitioner. There should be more good days than bad ones. I have a very good friend who is going a rough patch right now. She is having therapy sessions and she has been asked to take up knitting and crochecting. I learnt how to knit to support her in this journey. You can also talk to a trusted friend to help you along as you seek help.

I absolutely agree with this. Life is a roller coaster. Sometimes you're going to have ups, but the dips are going to be inevitable. It's natural to feel down sometimes. What isn't natural is feeling down all the time, or for an abnormally long period of time. This usually means that there is something up that needs to be checked out. It could be a hormonal imbalance that requires medication, maybe therapy to address past traumatic events, or a change in lifestyle/location that has been long overdue. No extended period of depression should go unchecked.

Unfortunately, this is just the way that the human mind works. We are almost never 100% happy or 100% sad, and sometimes the ratios fall out of balance. That is just the nature of human psychology. Like the waves of the ocean which roll in and pull back out, our emotional states come and go.

There is also a physical explanation. Some people experience seasonal affective disorder and will be particularly vulnerable to depression during the Winter time. This is often associated with the fact that we don't get much Vitamin D during the Winter, and Vitamin D deficiency has been correlated to a host of mental disorders including depression and bipolar syndrome.

Don't feel bad friend, I can relate with your situation. Sometime all of a sudden I could just go sad for no reason at all. So if is not peculiar to you alone. From my experience what I have observed is that, in those period that I do get sad of a sudden, maybe there is task I haven't completed and it's really bothering me. So one thing I can recommend for you is that whenever you feel like that, just sit down and clear your head. And it will go trust me.

Anyone can feel sad eventually. Usually, it depends on our hormones levels, or maybe something that got us worried about. Anyway please pay attention to you or any friend, if this happens in a repetitive way. There are a lot of people, who can be going through depression and don't know it. That is when they need our support. To anyone feeling this way, the best chance you can give to yourselves, is to talk about it with someone, to express what you feel. Nothing like a friend for a good therapy.

I believe what you need is joy. joy is one of the fruits of the holy spirit. The Bible says rejoice in the lord always. A merry heart does good like a medicine. You an only have this joy when you have relationship with God. God will bestow joy in your heart. Joy unspeakable and full of glory.

Sometimes I also have that feeling of sadness with no reason at all. Perhaps it is my subconscious that is doing that to me. It’s like when you have seen something traumatic in the news like death of a person then that might haunt your subconscious and later on would make you sad without even knowing why. What I usually do is to count my blessings and do something positive that will perk me up.
