What was the very first personal computer you got?

The very first computer I got was a Commodore C64. It wasn't a Microsoft Windows and PC but I got it because I was asked what I wanted more for Christmas once in the middle of the 90's a PC or a games console. I think when the first gen games consoles came out like the Sega Megadrive or the Nintendo 64. And while I did want to do what most people my age back then wanted to do and play Sonic the Hedgehog and Mariokart with my mates, I wanted to be a desktop publisher and leave school/college with some degrees and qualifications in IT. So I decided on the Commodore C64 PC in the end. Mainly because I already used to spend time round my friends house and play on their similar (but often debated to be better) Spectrum ZX81 and playing games like Outrun, Golden Axe and Double Dragon, Paperboy and Chuckie Egg for years already. Do you remember playing those games?

So I figured, I can play games on it and learn desktop publishing with it and take over the world with it at the same time. Oh boy was I in for a surprise. Sometimes I ended up wishing I'd just got a console instead. The first Commodore C64 didn't work. After waiting about 2 months for a new one, I never really got much use of it, if it didn't crash when loading games, I had to sit through 20 minutes of screeching and squelching only for the game to not load properly and then repeat the whole process over and over again about 5 times before the game loaded properly. If you remember this I got respect for you.

As for learning desktop publishing with it, well it was only when I got my first Windows PC (An IBM something I think) that came with Windows 98 before I was even able to open a simple file! After this, my learning increased substantially and I started created and selling business and personality cards printed out on my simple printer to my class mates at school (amongst other things). Then 5+ years later computers, desktops and laptops got a bit better. But it's been with a Windows OS and a desktop PC I've had my most success with. These days I use an allinone touchscreen desktop PC which has like 16GB RAM and 80TB HDD or something.

So yeah, that's my story of how I got to where I am today haha! I'm not asking you to leave a big story like mine and walk me down memory lane unless you have one.

But what was the first computer you got or which one was your favorite?

Oh man, I actually think I still have my first computer still What was the very first personal computer you got? It was a dell laptop and I can't remember the windows version, but I do know I didn't hate it like I hate windows 10 lol What was the very first personal computer you got?

My family has had computers for a while, but I never owned one by myself. I purchased my first one around 10 years ago and I got it from overstock.com which was a horrible idea. It was a horrible idea because after I purchased I was asked if I wanted to buy a type of insurance deal for 2 years and I was like "Hell Yeah I Do!" so I paid an extra $119 for it and was covered from basically any malfunction for 2 years because I bought the best insurance package they offered me.

Fast forward about a year and the charger fried as well as my battery. I got a hold of overstock and they wouldn't accept my insurance purchase because it was a year old.... yeah, I purchased a 2 year warranty and this thing fried after just a year. They kept giving me the run around and eventually said it was my own fault that the battery went bad, I was furious.

I purchased a new charger that was a universal one with about a dozen charger tips that I could swap out for different types of laptops if I needed to, I also bought a new battery and just popped it in. So now I paid for the laptop $1350, paid for the additional warranty $119, paid for a new charger $135, paid for a new battery $75 - $90 (don't remember the exact price). So basically I paid $1276 for a laptop that wasn't too fancy What was the very first personal computer you got?

I now build my own desktops and only purchase brand spanking new laptops. I've only ran into one problem since that first purchase, and it was just my hard drive deciding it wanted to fry itself What was the very first personal computer you got? But that was a quick fix since I had an extra hard drive laying around and had backed up my files on an external hard drive a few weeks prior because my laptop was acting up What was the very first personal computer you got?

Anyone else have a good or bad story?

Hi Thanks for nice question and I have to remember my old memory when I was get first computer. It has long history how to get it. When I was intermediate student, I said to my father I need a computer to learn something about this like MS office etc. And he said it is okay, you can purchase a computer and he give me some amount of money and that was 2000. I mean I got first computer in 2000 and that was Pentium 2 and very latest version with operation system windows 1997. 60 GB hard dick and 2 GB Ram that was awesome money when I got my first computer. And I did not sleep whole night and just tried to understand how to operate such one.

The first computer I had was bought by my dad some 20 years ago. So you can imagine how bulky and slow etc it used to be lol. Since then I only bought laptops, and I tried different brands, I had HP, Dell, Asus and Acer, at least those are the ones I remember. I prefer laptops more than desktops as they are more portable. I do not like to spend a fortune on a laptop as a basic one works just fine for me I guess, and once something goes wrong I do not have to regret having spend too much money on it.

I can't remember exactly but I believe it must have been during 2000. We actually rented my very first computer. My dad got a deal from his work and we could "rent" it for something like $40 per month or so. We could have bought it after 12 months, for something like $1200-$1500, but my father insisted on a new computer for me, as he'd finally realised how much I enjoyed having a computer. Said and done, he actually gave me about $1600-$2000 and I bought my own instead. Can't remember the exact specifics though, but it was AMD Athlon XP 2400+ I believe. Literally the best day of my life, so far, at that time. What was the very first personal computer you got?

Our first home computer is a clone which is not branded. It has a hard disk of 70 mb and was running on DOS. We bought it in1993. When the Windows came about, I tried to install the first version in our computer but it wouldn't. My husband installed by individual modules which was a success. However, the booting takes around 10 minutes due to lack of memory and lack of disk space too. I remember the word processor was Wordstar and the spreadsheet was Lotus 123 which were running good on DOS.
